2025 PERFORMERS

Revolutionary music you can dance to! Los Mocochetes is a Xicano/Funk band from the ancestral, occupied and unceded lands of the Tsis tsis'tas¹, Hinono'eiteen², Ka'igwu³, Weenuchiu⁴, Anasazi⁵, Newe⁶, Diné⁷, Ndee⁸, Inday⁸, and Dine'é⁸ (commonly referred to as Cheyenne¹, Arapahoe², Kiowa³, Ute⁴, Pueblo⁵, Shoshone⁶, Navajo⁷, Apache⁸) and other peoples now known as Denver, CO.

With deep roots from the Mora Valley in northern Nuevo Mexico and to the south from Juarez, MX. By combining elements of cumbia, reggae, hip-hop, rock, funk, and more, Los Mocochetes composes music to unite the gente and create revolutionary music you can dance to.

The word Mocochete is a term coined by the group to mean “mocosos con machetes”. In life, most mocosos (snot-nosed “brats”) develop physically to the point where they are strong enough to wield a tool or weapon, such as a machete. How you use that tool has lasting consequences and defines the mark you leave on the world with great potential for both creation and destruction. This duality exists in all of us.

Los Mocochetes have devoted their lives to using their machetes for good. Every performance draws on the elements, the directions, the ancestors and the great mystery. Each song is a prayer meant to move your feet, stir your spirit, and to remind you of the incredible power you have to heal yourself and the 7 generations forward and back. Aho. Mitákuye Oyás'iŋ. Ōmeteōtl. Aṣẹ.

Sweaty soul music. From humble beginnings covering soul standards in their unlikely hometown of Greeley, Colorado, The Burroughs have traversed a decade of growth and reinvention to become a band that defies odds and transcends categorization. Since 2013, the 9-piece act has lit up stages around the country with their trademark brand of “sweaty soul music,” an invitation for audiences to dance, celebrate, and connect under a unifying and infectious groove.

Bandleader and frontman Johnny Burroughs sings, dances, and screams audiences into a revival-like frenzy. His dynamite backing band includes sizzling horns and powerhouse rhythm section made up of some of Colorado’s most versatile and in-demand musicians. Since their early days pulling inspiration from artists spanning Stevie Wonder to Beyonce, the group has grown into a formidable creative collective focused on finding an original voice. The band’s undeniable chemistry on stage is built from a decade of real-life relationships and creative partnership. In an industry focused on finding the next big singular artist, The Burroughs have forged their own path that centers on music made in community.

The band’s latest single, “Got To Free Your Mind,” is a call to break free, transported by the mind-altering substances of funk and sweat. This single marks the first release in a new era for The Burroughs, returning to their roots as leaders of radical communion on dance floors and dive bars around the country. Their previous studio album Honey Imastar (2023) is a conceptual intergalactic adventure following an alien traveler who comes to Earth to study and understand humans; its companion live album Live at Washington’s (2024) showcases the band sharing this music as well as hits from their extensive back catalog. Previous recorded releases include self-released singles “Zero Sum Game,” “Baby Get Down,” and “I Refuse”; Love and Unity produced by Eric Krasno (2020); “The Slip” and “Forever In Love on Color Red Music (2019); their full-length studio album Got to Feel (2018); the single “You Are My Joy,” and b-side “1968” (2016); and the full-length live album Sweaty Greeley Soul (2015), recorded live at the Moxi Theater.

The Burroughs have played prestigious festivals and venues including Salmonfest Alaska, Bohemian Nights New West Fest, Denver's Underground Music Showcase, and the Mishawaka. The band has written, produced, and performed a show of original music with orchestra, premiered with the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra in 2021. They have opened for acts including The Motet, The Steve Miller Band, Keller Williams, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and The Main Squeeze.

Since the band’s start, The Burroughs have always embraced their hometown of Greeley, Colorado, with a passion for community outreach. Previous partnerships have amplified the work of great organizations like the Weld Food Bank, Greeley Boys and Girls Clubs, and Habitat for Humanity. The band’s latest mission is an ongoing partnership with Greeley-Evans District 6 Schools titled #BandsGiveBack- a campaign for local artists to pledge money and time dedicated towards providing all area students with access to music education. Providing music clinics and joint performances with high school bands around their city and across the country, The Burroughs hope to inspire the next generation of musicians to find a career path in music.

“Dear Marsha brings with it a power grrrl rock sound with a twisted shade of soul and wicked humor”.

Jack and friends bring together clarinet and Bill Evans-esque jazz harmonies into an early-aughts indie rock package. Jack Campbell came up in the Minneapolis songwriting tradition of stuffing infectious pop earworms and unique harmonic flavors into a fuzzy garage rock package. Their danceable indie rock veneer, akin to influences such as Sondre Lerche, the Replacements, and Elvis Costello, conceals deeper themes of mental health struggles. Following the feature of their single "Absentee" on hit podcast Welcome to Night Vale, the group has captivated hundreds of thousands of fans around the globe.

Acoustic blues, roots & jam. Mad Dog Friedman, harmonica player, musical innovator and founder of many popular Colorado blues acts over the years including King Comfort, Harmonica Loowinski, Papa Juke, the Mojo Medicine Show & Blue Lightning, has put together an acoustic blues jam band with a unique blues style indigenous to Colorado in the 21st Century while still honoring the blues roots. We call this music Colorado Country Blues because it combines the “Colorado Sound” (jam grass) with traditional rural blues. The result is Mad Dog Blues, a coalition of top-notch, veteran musicians dedicated to exploring this new sound in both their song writing and performances. We hope you enjoy our original “Colorado Country Blues” sound, a unique fusion of delta blues, bluegrass, honky-tonk, hokum and acoustic jam music.
